Comment: Sophisticated mineral folks tend to frown on boring little kyanites…but this is neither boring nor small, and is a dramatic and really showy example of this common species! At nearly 1 kilo (2 pounds), it is hefty and impactful in person. This is from a particularly good pocket that came up in 2008, and from which much was sold as "decorator rocks." However, careful sorting foudn a few choice specimens with good crystals, consistent color, and some aesthetic arrangement amidst most of them that really were just there for the color. This is one of a half dozen i put aside at that time, which I found particularly attractive.
