Comment: This is very attractive and well known material, but rarely does one find a piece like this. These Ruby / Zoisite specimens were found in Tanzania in 1954 (sometimes referred to as "Anyolite" after the Massai word for green), and are very popular among collectors either as cabochons or for carvings. This piece is a lovely "Pear Cabochon" cut stone of Ruby / Zoisite showing the classic purplish-red and rich green bicolor effect. A very nice representative gem of this beautiful material.

Minerals: Ruby - red Zoisite (Ca2Al3(SiO4)3(OH) = Ca2AlAl2(SiO4)(Si2O7)O(OH))
