Comment: Larimar is the trade name that is designated to the light blue, massive Pectolite from the Dominican Republic. The material is typically opaque, but sometimes slightly translucent. The actual name "Larimar" is a combination of "Larissa", which was the name of the daughter of Dominican geologist, Miguel Mendez who originally named the material, and "Mar", which is the Spanish word for sea, as it resembles the crystal blue Caribbean Sea. This stone is an attractive Larimar gem with a "Square Cushion Cabochon" cut and a beautiful banded blue, whic and reddish-brown appearance. These stones are only found in one place in the world, and they are becoming increasingly more popular among collectors, jewelers and dealers.

Minerals: Larimar - blue Pectolite (NaCa2Si3O8(OH))
